PS, I just realized this is my 100 post - woo hoo!!
a conversation with a po this week led to a request from him to make a comparison of of jw's to other religions.
for ex: their preaching work, their growth, their brotherhood, their building projects, their assistance in times of natural disasters, etc.
the search engine in jwd is not working and i would appreciate any information written about this subject in the past..
I was in the area durring Katrena and know for a fact how the WTS "helped" victums of the huricane. The home owners would have to turn their insurance checks over to the relief committee (if they got a check) before the brothers would help. Then the R&F brothers would do the work. The society would buy the material in bulk and pocket the rest of the money. It seemed to me at the time, and I was an active witness then, that the relief effort was nothing more than a fund raising effort.

she was only 24, and found dead yesterday.
there has been bad flooding there(people missing and others found dead).....so that may have been a factor, but they are doing an autopsy on her....does that mean there might have been foul play?
she had a troubled life, so we wouldn't rule out someone hurting her.
My condolences to you and your family

especially those who didn't go on account of the borg (the vast majority).
do you regret this decision?
if you did go what would you have studied?
I didn't go because at the time I hated school. Not raised in the "truth" my parents we're very into higher education but could not convince me of the need. I regret it now. Even as an active witness I encouraged my chhildren to go. Now that I'm fading I'm still encouraging my children to go. I have one child starting in the fall. YAHOO!!!!
RV
Seeing as how my children are active JW's I don't expect anything from them, so thank you.

i'm curious to know reasons for wanting to be an elder?.
some have expressed to me they wanted to use their abilities to help others.. another said he wanted to be in the inner circle to make sure he was able to look after his families' interests in the event of any future mishaps by his children.. i think many just get caught in the web of handling microphones, then ministerial servant then elder.. i know it's easy for me to say as i wasn't any of these (apart from microphones) but .
i can't help thinking for most men it is simply helping to fulfill a desire for more power.. many don't seem content to be viewed as a mere publisher but want to get in on the action, knowing all the gossip and being involved on decisions.. is it true that deep down, even though most may have good motives, it is still out of a feeling of self importance.. thanks .
I never wanted to be an elder but accepted the possition because I was trying to do what I was being taught God wanted. I believed the lie.
